Tokyo Matsuya Showroom Shop was founded in 1690 (the third year of the Genroku Era) by Tokyo Matsuya, a wholesaler of “washi” (Japanese-style fibrous handmade paper). Over a spacious exhibition area of roughly 1,000 square meters from the first floor to the fourth, the traditional craft of “Edo karakami” (thick printed paper), sliding screens and Japanese-style rooms are presented. Exhibiting and selling items ranging from sliding screens to stationery, Edo Period woodblocks to translucent-paper screen doors, it is a dedicated showroom of interior-use washi.
