Tokyo Metropolitan Teien Art Museum
東京都庭園美術館
Originally built in the Art Deco style in 1933 to be the residence of Prince Asaka, this museum is also known for its tranquil garden of lush greenery. Inside, Japanese design fuses with the creations of French artists — such as glasswork by René Lalique and wall paintings by Henri Rapin — to magnificent effect. The gallery was reopened in 2014 and Hiroshi Sugimoto, a contemporary artist, was appointed as advisor for the new white cube gallery space in the annex building. The museum is the embodiment of harmony between architecture, old and new, and a mix of international cultures.
1933年に建設されたアール・デコ様式の旧朝香宮邸と緑豊かな庭園を有する美術館。ルネ・ラリック作のガラス工芸やアンリ・ラパン作の壁画など、フランスの芸術家の作品と日本の意匠が融合したインテリアも見どころ。2014年にリニューアルオープンを果たし、現代美術家・杉本博司をアドバイザーに迎えて新館にホワイトキューブのギャラリーを新設。新旧建築と国際的文化の調和を体現する。
